WorldPoint Logistics, formed last year to acquire businesses that serve key segments of the logistics supply chain, acquired the assets of Corporate Express Delivery Systems-Expedited for an undisclosed amount.
Expedited, based in Dallas, provides ground transportation for freight forwarders, airlines, integrators and shippers.
WorldPoint President Jack Edwards said Expedited will be one of the firm’s “platform” companies and will operate independently of three other firms acquired since October 1998. The other companies are: U.S. Shippers, an intermodal marketing and truck brokerage firm based in Edmonds, Wash.; Alfa International, a customs broker and freight forwarder in Valley Stream, N.Y.; and President Container Lines of Elizabeth, N.J., an ocean freight forwarder.
Expedited was formed in early 1998 when Corporate Express consolidated seven companies that were once part of U.S. Delivery Systems, a Houston-based courier. U.S. Delivery was combined with another courier group, United TransNet, to form Corporate Express Delivery Systems.
