Xtra Lease said Tuesday it will provide free basic trailer-tracking service to fleets on new long-term leased trailers, including refrigerated units.
The company has long offered basic trailer tracking on dry van rentals for free, but said it will now include the service on newly leased dry vans and late model reefers from model-year 2010 and later.
Basic trailer-tracking service enables users to view current and historical trailer locations, drill into dormancy and utilization information to better understand how trailers are being used, and receive e-mail reports on location and dormancy information.
Xtra Lease continues to offer full-service tracking with leases for a fee when fleet managers want additional monitoring and sensor capabilities.
“The service has evolved into a critical fleet management tool, and transportation professionals now expect services like trailer tracking to help them improve equipment utilization,” Bill Franz, Xtra Lease’s CEO, said in a statement.
