Xtra Lease Goes Online To Recruit Customers

LONG BEACH, Calif. — Xtra Lease is promoting its new site on the World Wide Web with a marketing campaign that allows the trailer leasing company to gather information on potential customers in exchange for contributing money to Trucker Buddy.

The site — www.xtralease.com — was unveiled at a May 2 press conference at the National Private Truck Council’s annual meeting.

The site contains information on Xtra’s equipment, services and rental locations. It is strictly for advertising at this point, offering information on the types of services and equipment the company offers. Xtra may offer online reservations, trailer locator and account tracking information in the future.

Previously, information about the company was available on the Web site of its parent, Xtra Corp.

Rather than leap whole-hog onto the Web, Xtra Lease is taking it one step at a time, starting with gathering information on current and potential customers for its trailer leasing business. The decision was based on a survey Xtra conducted of its customers 18 months ago, said Kathy O’ Leary, Xtra’s vice president of marketing.

Xtra Lease will donate $1 to the Trucker Buddy pen-pal program in the name of individuals who fill out the company’s electronic questionnaire. The promotion will end in October, when the company will evaluate the data collected and determine its next step, O’Leary said.
