YRC Chief Says 1Q Earnings May Fall

YRC Worldwide Chief Executive Officer Bill Zollars said the company’s first-quarter earnings will likely be lower than expected, the Associated Press reported.

His comments came after Baird analyst Jon Langenfeld cut his per-share annual earnings estimate for YRC from $1.25 to $1, noting severe weather and high fuel costs. Langenfeld reiterated his forecast that YRC will lose 20 cents per share in the first quarter, AP reported.

Zollars said he sees some bright spots in the U.S. economy but cited a continuing difficult environment, AP reported.

He told analysts at a JP Morgan conference broadcast on the Internet that YRC’s attempts to restructure its regional trucking business are starting to gain traction, though he also cautioned it was still early in the process, AP reported.

Less-than-truckload carrier YRC Worldwide is ranked No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
