YRC, Clean Energy Set Partnership in LNG Pilot Project
YRC Freight said it has completed an agreement with Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to purchase four liquefied natural gas trucks to operate in Southern California.
YRC Freight, a unit of less-than-truckload carrier YRC Worldwide, said the trucks will serve the Port of Long Beach and surrounding areas.
The project will leverage Clean Energy’s LNG fueling infrastructure in Southern California, the two companies said in a statement Wednesday.
Clean Energy is developing what it calls “America’s Natural Gas Highway,” a nationwide network of LNG stations for heavy-duty trucks.
The trucks will be operated by long-tenured YRC Freight drivers, and the project’s results will be analyzed by the company’s maintenance, fuel and operations teams, YRC said.
“We are eager to test natural-gas trucks in the Southern California area and see how they perform within our network,” said Jeff Rogers, YRC Freight’s president.
“We’re confident that YRC Freight will become the latest enthusiast for natural gas as the fuel of choice,” James Harger, Clean Energy’s chief marketing officer, said in the statement.
