YRC Worldwide on Thursday reported a first-quarter loss of $81.6 million, compared with a $102.7 million loss in last year’s first quarter.
Its operating loss also narrowed, to $48.8 million, from a $68.4 million operating loss a year ago, the less-than-truckload carrier said in a statement.
On a per share basis, the first quarter loss was $12.40, compared with a $643.56 per-share loss that reflected the effect of a reverse stock split that reduced the number of its outstanding shares.
Its YRC Freight unit’s operating revenue rose 8.1% to $789.1 million, with tonnage per day up3.5% and shipments per day up 2.8%.
Its Regional Transportation unit’s operating revenue rose 9.8% to $402 million, with tons per day rising 6% and shipments per day up 4.3%.
YRC Worldwide is ranked No. 4 on the Transport Topics 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
