Less-than-truckload carrier YRC Worldwide Inc. has reached an agreement with its lenders that will extend until 2024 the terms of $580 million in loans it is using to help improve its business operations.

The U.S. unemployment rate fell to 11.1% in June according to the Labor Department as the economy added 4.8 million jobs and the easing of coronavirus-related restrictions allowed more businesses to reopen while bringing back some of their employees.

Though cargo theft is a year-round problem for trucking, it is more of a concern around the July Fourth holiday, according to a report by CargoNet.

FedEx said its fourth-quarter net income was a loss of $334 million, or negative $1.28 a share, compared with a loss of $1.97 billion, or negative $7.56 a share, in the 2019 period.

The national average retail price of diesel rose for the fourth consecutive week, half a cent to $2.43 a gallon, the Energy Information Administration reported June 29.

Experts are warning that signs of improvement in the U.S. economy could give way to another round of contractions as coronavirus cases increase in certain states.

Truck tonnage in May declined 9.6% compared with year-ago levels, the steepest seasonally adjusted year-over-year percentage drop since a 10.7% decline in June 2009, American Trucking Associations reported.

The national average retail price of diesel rose for the third consecutive week, 2.2 cents to $2.425 a gallon, according to data the Energy Information Administration released June 22.

Officials in Washington, Ottawa and Mexico City say the border closings to nonessential travel between the U.S. and its northern and southern neighbors will remain in place for at least another month. The borders have been closed to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Container volumes in May were down at most of the nation’s major seaports as the facilities struggled with the deepening U.S. recession and the slowdown of Asian and European economies at the start of the coronavirus outbreak earlier this year.
