Walmart says drone deliveries are no longer a futuristic idea, as it will be able to make drone deliveries with its partners Wing and Zipline to 75% of Dallas-Fort Worth by the end of this year.

Last year Walmart Inc. dangled $110,000 trucking jobs to its own store workers. Now, the first classes of students are graduating.

Walmart is raising trucker salaries in its push to hire 900 more drivers this year across the United States, including Texas, where it has a big concentration of large distribution centers where empty trucks get filled.

FedEx Office has started asking customers to show photo identification when mailing packages from one of its 1,900 stores.

Amazon.com said Jan. 18 that it plans to open a fulfillment center in Coppell, Texas, which will be its ninth in the state.    

Addison, Texas-based trucking company Daseke Inc. expects to go public early next year as part of a sale of the company to a Houston-based private equity firm, Hennessy Capital Acquisition Corp. II, in a $626 million debt and equity financed deal.
