The Georgia Ports Authority has ordered eight rail-mounted gantry cranes from Konecranes as part of a recently started construction project to expand the Port of Savannah’s on-dock intermodal yard.

The Port of Savannah has shattered its record for container traffic in a year, processing more than 4 million industry-standard 20-foot-equivalent units (TEUs) in 2017, the Georgia Ports Authority announced Jan. 22. The previous record was 3.7 million TEUs in 2015.

A&R Logistics will collaborate with the Georgia Ports Authority to start a supply chain to export plastic resins out of the Port of Savannah.

The past two directors of the Georgia Ports Authority will combine to earn $1 million in pension payments alone this year.
