J.B. Hunt, Knight-Swift and Schneider are among the motor carriers expanding their intermodal operations for new avenues for growth.

Dorsey Intermodal is on track to fulfill an agreement to supply more than 5,000 new chassis for the South Carolina Ports Authority, the trailer manufacturer announced Nov. 8.

First-quarter total intermodal volumes fell 1.5% year-over-year after posting strong growth in 2018, according to the Intermodal Association of North America’s Intermodal Market Trends & Statistics report.

Intermodal business continued to climb out of the hole dug in 2016, recording the strongest gain in nearly three years, according to a quarterly report from the Intermodal Association of North America.
