The Environmental Protection Agency is likely to rule Monday that carbon dioxide is a dangerous pollutant, the Wall Street Journal reported.

News Flash: Since the administration has rejected any move to raise fuel taxes, it’s incumbent on the Department of Transportation to work with Congress to select another funding source for the nation’s infrastructure needs.

As customers seek ways to cut expenses and reduce their carbon footprint through the supply chain, warehouse operators are taking their own steps to trim energy use, optimize loads and automate processes.

Navistar Inc., which said it has spent $600 million to develop its 2010 exhaust gas recirculation engine, said the company is losing sales of next year’s model because federal regulators “helped create the false impression” among customers that only urea-based after-treatment systems would meet 2010 federal emissions standards.

The Federal Railroad Administration said the fuel efficiency of the freight-rail industry rose 22% between 1990 and 2006, and that when compared to trucks in similar routes and distances, is between 1.9 and 5.5 times more fuel efficient.
