CSX Corp.’s second-quarter earnings rose as growth in container-car shipments eased the effects of sliding coal volumes, Bloomberg reported.

Kansas City Southern’s second-quarter earnings rose to $120 million, or $1.09 a share, from $71 million, or 64 cents, a year ago.

Technology distributor Ingram Micro Inc. said it has agreed to purchase BrightPoint Inc., a provider of logistics services to the wireless industry, for about $840 million, the companies announced in a joint statement July 2.

Investor Wood Creek Capital Management, along with Bowman Sales and Equipment Inc. and Milestone Trailer Leasing, last week bought 27,000 U.S.-based trailers from GE Capital, continuing the transformation of the highway leasing market.
