Canadian Labor Minister Jean-Pierre Blackburn introduced legislation Friday to force striking Canadian National Railway Co. employees back to work as early as next week, Bloomberg reported.

The average national retail price of diesel fuel rose 1.5 cents to $2.491 a gallon, the Energy Department reported Tuesday.

A strike by Canadian National Railway workers stretching into its second week has Canadian federal officials concerned and the federal government has appointed a mediator to try to solve the dispute, Bloomberg reported.

Third-party logistics provider Hub Group said late Monday it earned $13.5 million or 34 cents a share in the fourth quarter, up from $10.1 million or 25 cents a share for the same quarter a year earlier.

Toronto-based transportation and logistics firm Vitran Corp.’s fourth-quarter profit was $5 million or 37 cents a share, compared with $5 million or 39 cents a year earlier.

Transportation and third-party logistics firm Pacer International’s fourth-quarter net income rose to $21.5 million or 57 cents a share, from $20.4 million or 54 cents a year earlier.
