Union workers at the Southern California ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach reached a tentative agreement with shipping lines and terminal operators, averting the threat of a strike at the biggest U.S. port complex, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

Eastern freight railroad Norfolk Southern Corp. said Wednesday its second-quarter earnings grew 5% to $394 million or 98 cents a share, from $375 million or 89 cents a year ago.

Transportation and logistics firm C.H. Robinson Worldwide’s second-quarter profit jumped 24% to $82.3 million or 47 cents a share, from $66.6 million or 38 cents a year ago.

Existing homes sales fell in June for a fourth straight month, declining 3.8%, the National Association of Realtors said Wednesday.

Canadian National Railway Co. said its second-quarter profit declined 29% as a result of flat revenue and an income tax recovery charge.

Pittsburgh Logistics Systems said Monday that its freight division has begun to offer truckload van service for general commodities, in addition to its flatbed service.

Freight railroad Union Pacific Corp.’s second-quarter earnings jumped 14% to $446 million or $1.65 a share, from $390 million or $1.44 a year ago.

Eastern freight rail line CSX Corp.’s second-quarter earnings fell almost 17% from a year earlier, the railroad said.
