Saia Follows Industry Trend With Record Earnings in 2Q

In the midst of a buoyant economy, less-than-truckload carrier Saia Inc. on Aug. 1 reported record second-quarter earnings. Saia said operating revenue was up nearly 18%, reaching nearly $428.7 million, or $1.18 a share, compared with $364.4 million, or 69 cents a share, for the same period in 2017.

Echo Global Logistics reported record second-quarter net income of $7.7 million from a loss of $200,000 in the second quarter of 2017. The Chicago-based third-party logistics company reported earnings per share of 28 cents, up from a loss of minus 1 cent a share a year ago.

Canadian transportation and logistics company TFI International reported second-quarter net income of C$80.4 million, or 89 cents per share, a significant turnaround from last year when TFI reported a quarterly loss of $75 million, or 82 cents per share.
