An expert hired by the Canadian Trucking Alliance is disputing claims made by the Canadian renewable fuels industry that diesel fuel buyers would save dramatically if the federal government proceeds with a proposed biodiesel mandate on July 1.

Intermodal and logistics firm Hub Group Inc. said Monday it has acquired Pacific, Wash., drayage carrier Domestic Transport. Terms were not disclosed.

Third-party logistics firms PenserSC and ICS Logistics said they have agreed to a trucking and transportation services contract.

Commercial trailer producers received 19,579 new orders in April, a 71% jump from the same month last year, and the manufacturers’ backlog rose above 100,000 for the first time in the current recovery, ACT Research Co. said.

Air and freight forwarder UTi Worldwide said Thursday its fiscal first-quarter profit fell to $8.7 million, or 8 cents per share, from $10.1 million, or 10 cents, a year ago.
