3PLs Continue to Search for Better IT Systems
hird-party logistics providers said they are continuing to invest in new software and hardware systems to remain competitive with rivals, to better serve their shipper customers and to increase their own profitability.
Executives with logistics providers and their technology vendors said 3PLs are continuously searching for quicker and more efficient ways to route trucks; communicate with employees, customers and carriers; and process information.
“In order to compete effectively against — and achieve meaningful differentiation from — multibillion-dollar competitors, you have to invest in technology,” said Ben Gordon, a former 3PL owner and now managing director of BG Strategic Advisors in Boston.
