American West Worldwide Express closed the acquisition of furniture delivery-service Innovative Delivery Systems, the company announced March 16.

The California-based logistics solutions provider said the acquisition grows its delivery capabilities and adds dedicated operations in two states. Both firms specialize in delivering furniture. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

IDS management will remain in place, and President Howard Dell, who founded the company in 1995, made the joint announcement with American West CEO Josh Brown.

“IDS meets our criteria with culture, technology and continual improvement,” Brown said in a statement. “IDS represents a ‘best in class’ in everything they do. We are fortunate to have them join our growing organization.”

American West has operations in San Francisco and Mira Loma, Calif., Dallas and Thomasville, N.C., as well as Florida. The company also partners with more than 300 agents to provide nationwide services. IDS adds Chino, Calif.,; Pomona, Calif.; Phoenix; and Rock Hill, N.C., to the portfolio.

“We are also excited to join the growing trend in dedicated operations,” Brown said. “IDS has years of experience in this important market …. As always, additional density will move all our shipments faster, including our important B2B business.”

American West’s acquisition of IDS followed a deal for Sun Delivery that closed Oct. 1. That transaction added 200,000 square feet of facilities in Thomasville, N.C., Dallas and Las Vegas. Sun Delivery had 250 employees and 150 pieces of equipment at the time.

American West was selected by several large Costco vendors in 2012 and chosen by Overstock.com as a premier furniture carrier in 2013. It provides services to furniture shippers, dealers, e-commerce customers and office furniture manufacturers. Transport Topics
