ATA Seeks to Limit Hazmat Restrictions

merican Trucking Associations has asked the federal government to label some hazardous materials as “security sensitive” for regulatory purposes in order to distinguish between hazmats that are a significant security risk in transport and those that are not.

In its June 14 filing, ATA asked the federal Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration to distinguish “security sensitive” hazmats from “the vast majority of hazardous materials that pose no significant risk in transportation.”

ATA said that rules covering all hazmats, regardless of their security risk, were considered over-regulation that forced trucking to incur unnecessary expenses.
