alifornia lawmakers passed a bill that would require all trucks entering the state to meet federal emissions standards that were in effect the year the truck was manufactured and drivers would have to provide evidence that the truck meets those standards.

“This bill speaks with one voice in that all trucks foreign and domestic would have to comply with federal emissions standards,” said Assemblywoman Fran Pavley.

Pavley sponsored the bill that was originally introduced Feb. 20, 2003, and amended this June after the Supreme Court’s decision that would allow Mexican trucks to haul to all U.S. destinations.

Pavley said that even though the prospect of Mexican trucks crossing the border prompted her to introduce the bill, the rule would apply to all trucks entering the state.
