California Emissions Rules Challenge Waste Haulers
img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>The California Air Resources Board issued a rule Sept. 25 that will require owners of waste-hauling truck fleets to retrofit their vehicles’ engines with particulate-matter controls starting next year.
But a trade group that represents major diesel manufacturers called the rule “seriously flawed” and illegal.
CARB’s rules are part of the state’s ongoing 10-point plan to curb diesel emissions based on year 2000 levels, Martin told Transport Topics. The plan calls for 70% emission reductions by 2010 and 85% by 2020, he said.
