img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>WASHINGTON — The director of port security for the Coast Guard told industry officials here March 24 that regulations coming next year would require them to assess security risks along truck access roads as well as facilities inside their port areas.
Rear Adm. Larry Hereth told the American Association of Port Authorities spring conference that “many pieces of infrastructure around the port area will also need to be addressed” once the regulations take effect July 1, 2004.
He said ports could be forced to make changes to roads and bridges leading to and from the ports or to alter the way trucks gain access to the ports.
