Continental Tire the Americas has reached an agreement with the state of Mississippi to purchase a site for construction of a $1.4 billion commercial vehicle tire plant.

Continental said the plant near Clinton would have 2,500 employees when it reaches full capacity in the next decade.

The company said in a statement it expects to break ground in the next several months “in cadence with market demands.”

Production of commercial vehicle tires is slated to start by end of 2019, Continental said.

Executive Vice President Paul Williams said, “As we plan our growth, we have found this site provides significant advantages for a future tire plant in terms of its large skilled workforce, as well as its ideal location and infrastructure.”

Continental Tire the Americas is a unit of Hanover, Germany-based Continental AG.
