C.R. England Cuts 81 Non-Driver Jobs

Refrigerated truckload carrier C.R. England laid off 81 workers, the Deseret News reported Aug. 31.

The cuts followed the trucking industry’s struggles to grow this year “due to a stagnant economy, increasing federal regulations and a tightening market for drivers,” CEO Chad England said in a memo, the newspaper reported.

“Unfortunately, we found that the size of our nondriver workforce must be adjusted to be consistent with the amount of freight we are able to haul in this environment,” “England said, the News reported.

He said the reduction represents less than 1% of C.R. England’s more than 8,200 employees and independent contractors, according to the Salt Lake City newspaper.

Salt Lake City-based C.R. England, the largest U.S. refrigerated carrier, is ranked No. 19 on the Transport Topics Top 100 listing of U.S. and Canadian for-hire carriers.
