.S. Customs and Border Protection has certified Maddocks Systems’ TruckMate software package for tracking shipments between the United States and Canada, the company said.

Maddocks spokesman Neal Cranna said the company received the certification after working closely with U.S. and Canadian customs officials to ensure the program worked properly. Maddocks said it is the first firm to receive this certification.

Under the ACE e-Manifest program, which is supposed to take effect later this year, trucks traveling between United and Canadian locations will have to submit manifests in advance. The manifests provide information about a truck’s cargo, driver and planned route.

Currently, truck drivers submit this information once they reach a border crossing.

“By transferring data directly from TruckMate to the Ace

-Manifest program, carriers will save the trouble of entering information twice,” Cranna said.

This should reduce the chances of incorrect information about a driver or cargo from being sent to American and Canadian law enforcement, he added.
