CVSA Holds Roadcheck Event With 9,900 Officers at 1,300 Sites

UMFRIES, Va. — Virginia State Police Lieutenant Herb Bridges said that during his career in law enforcement and performing safety inspections of heavy-duty trucks, he has seen some pretty interesting things.

But none were quite as interesting as one he saw June 8 at the scalehouse here along Interstate 95 during the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s 19th annual Roadcheck event: a truck driver hauling a rig with no brakes hooked up to a flatbed trailer with a pickup truck on it.

“This is something that we have never seen before; it was an unusual configuration,” Bridges said. “That is why we are taking some extra time with it.”
