Daimler Delivers 1,000th Truck Powered by Natural Gas

Daimler Trucks North America said it has delivered its 1,000th truck powered by natural gas and added it was the first commercial vehicle manufacturer to reach that mark.

DTNA said it held a ceremony this month in Anaheim, Calif., to turn over the keys of a Freightliner M2 112 compressed natural gas truck with a Cummins Westport ISL G engine to Ryder System Inc.

Daimler said it manufactured the truck at its plant in Mount Holly, N.C.

The Cummins Westport engine is built by a 50-50 joint venture between engine manufacturer Cummins Inc. and natural gas power systems provider Westport Power Inc. The Cummins Westport, which can run on compressed or liquefied natural gas, is an 8.9 liter engine that can produce between 250 and 300 horsepower, according to Westport.
