Daimler AG has pledged to protect the jobs of its permanent employees through 2016, Bloomberg reported Wednesday.
Daimler, which makes Freightliner and Western Star heavy-duty trucks, extended protections for about 130,000 workers, Bloomberg said. The company had agreed to protect workers from compulsory layoffs in 2009 as part of its efforts to reduce spending by $2.7 billion, Bloomberg said.
Under the agreement, Daimler can use temporary workers for up to 8% of its production staff, Bloomberg said.
In a statement, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche said the agreement gives the company the flexibility to optimally react to demand, Bloomberg reported.
