De la Torre Keeps His Boss Informed, On-Time and Fed

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>Bill Graves — American Trucking Associations president, two-term governor of Kansas with a total of 16 years holding statewide elected office in Kansas — has had a lot of staff people. When he came to ATA last year, however, he brought just one man with him — Joe de la Torre.

De la Torre, who reports directly to Graves and has no formal responsibility for managing ATA people or departments, is Graves’ eyes and ears, making sure the ATA executive is up-to-date on developments in the federation’s far-flung network.

His function, de la Torre said, “is to keep the governor informed, on-time and fed.” He’s also as a sounding board for Graves and provides alternative path for information to the ATA leader.
