he Delaware legislature has abandoned plans to give the state’s Department of Transportation authority to increase tolls on state Route 1 this month, an agency official said.

State Sen. Robert Venables (D) pushed for the language to be included in an $834.9 million capital spending bill. However, the Senate did not include the measure in the bill approved June 30 for fiscal year 2006, which started July 1, said Mike Williams, a Delaware DOT spokesman.

Jack Taylor, president of the Delaware Motor Transport Association, said he was pleased Venables’ proposal did not survive “because it was unnecessary” and would increase operating costs.
