The U.S. diesel average rose 0.2 cent to $3.873 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported Dec. 23.

The increase followed a 0.8-cent drop the previous week and left diesel 5 cents below the same week a year earlier.

Regionally, the prices remained steady throughout the United States, with the largest movement of 1.1 cents reported in DOE’s Central Atlantic region.

DOE also reported the regular gasoline average rose 3.2 cents to $3.271 a gallon. Gasoline had declined 5.4 cents over the previous three weeks.

Gasoline’s increase left the national average 1.4 cents higher than the same week a year earlier.
