Diesel dipped for a second week, sliding 1.1 cents to $3.869 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported.

Gasoline inched up 0.1 cent to $3.646 a gallon, DOE said late Monday following its weekly survey of filling stations.

The diesel downturn follows last week’s 1-cent drop, which was preceded by two gains totaling 4.5 cents. Prior to that, diesel fell 31.4 cents in 10 straight declines.

Gas fell 2.8 cents last week, while before that it rose 15.3 cents in three straight gains.

Trucking’s main fuel is 2.3 cents higher than the same week last year, while gasoline is 3.3 cents over a year ago, according to DOE figures.

Each week, DOE surveys about 400 diesel filling stations and 800 gasoline stations to compile national average prices.
