Diesel Drops 0.5¢ to $3.918 a Gallon
The price of diesel continued to decline, falling 0.5 cent to $3.918 a gallon from $3.923, its 10th drop in the past 11 weeks, while gasoline increased by 4.1 cents to $3.298, the Department of Energy said Dec. 31.
The string of downturns leaves diesel 23.2 cents below its $4.15 price on Oct. 15, which had been a more than four-year high.
Despite the most recent increase, gasoline has declined in nine of the past 13 weeks, totaling 55.2 cents.
Diesel is now 13.5 cents higher than the same week a year ago, while gas is 0.1 cent below the same week last year.
Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
