The average national price of retail diesel fuel continued its downward trend, falling 6.2 cents to $4.145 a gallon, the Department of Energy said Monday.
The sixth straight weekly decline put the downturn over that time at 61.9 cents, but diesel is $1.282 higher than the same week last year, according to DOE figures.
Meanwhile, the price of regular gasoline continued on a downturn track of its own, falling 5.5 cents to $3.685 a gallon, down 42.9 cents from its record $4.114, set on July 7.
Diesel dropped 9.2 cents in the Rocky Mountain region to $4.227 a gallon, while the price on the West Coast fell 7 cents to $4.286
Oil prices slid from a record $145.18 closing price in mid-July to $112.87 last Monday. Crude rose to more than $121 on Thursday before sliding back to $114.59 on Friday.
Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
