Diesel Falls Another 3¢ to $3.648 a Gallon; Price Has Plunged 50¢ in Three Months
Diesel’s national average pump price fell for a 12th straight week, declining 3 cents to $3.648 a gallon, while gasoline fell for a 13th week, the Department of Energy said Monday.
Gasoline fell 8.1 cents — following last week’s 9.6-cent decline — to $3.356 a gallon. DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.
The diesel drop left it 20.2 cents below the same week last year, while gas is 22.3 cents under a year ago, DOE said.
Trucking’s main fuel has plunged 50 cents and gasoline has plummeted 58.5 cents in the past three months, according to DOE records.
The declines followed falling oil prices, which hit an almost nine-month low last Thursday under $78 a barrel.
Crude futures bounced back Friday, rising more than $7, but fell $1.21 Monday to finish the trading day at $83.75 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, Bloomberg reported.
Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
