Diesel fuel’s national average pump price continued to slide Monday, falling 14.9 cents to $4.353 a gallon, the Energy Department said

The price of trucking’s main fuel has fallen 41.1 cents over the past four weeks, from the record $4.764 set on July 14, but the price is $1.506 higher than the same week last year.

Gasoline, meanwhile, continued its downward track, falling 7.1 cents to $3.809 a gallon, DOE said following its weekly survey of filling stations.

Gas is now $1.038 higher than last year and has fallen 30.5 cents from the $4.114 record set a July 7.

The diesel decline was led by 15.3-cent plunged on the West Coast to $4.511, and a 17.4-cent downturn in California, which DOE breaks out separately from its five regions, to $4.607.

Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
