U.S. retail diesel and gasoline prices rose for the week, the Department of Energy said Feb. 18 after its weekly surveys of fueling stations.
Diesel rose by 1.2 cents a gallon to $3.989 on Feb. 17. It was the fourth straight weekly increase.
The increase amounted to 11.6 cents a gallon for the four weeks combined.
Gasoline rose for the second straight week, leaping by 7.1 cents a gallon to $3.38, also on Feb. 17. The two-week combined increase totaled 8.8 cents a gallon.
Despite the increases, diesel and gasoline are less expensive than they were last year at this time.
The report on Feb. 17 prices was released a day later than usual because Feb. 16, Presidents’ Day, was a federal holiday.
