Daimler Trucks North America has appointed Henning Bruns general manager of its manufacturing plant in Cleveland, North Carolina, where the company builds Class 8 Freightliner and Western Star trucks.

He will assume the role May 1.

“Together with a strong team, I will make every effort to fulfill the increasing demand of our long-term fleet customers,” Bruns said in a statement.

Roger Nielsen, DTNA’s chief operating officer, said the Cleveland plant is “essential” to the company’s ability to meet customer demand for Freightliner’s Cascadia Evolution model and the new Western Star 5700.

Bruns, who joined Daimler in 1991, has served the past three years as head of product planning and strategy for Daimler Trucks, focusing on new truck markets and supporting Daimler’s joint venture with Auman Trucks in China.

He was general manager and vice president of operations for Detroit Diesel Corp. from 2007 to 2012.

From 2001 to 2006, Bruns was responsible for several truck launches as product line manager for Mercedes-Benz Atego and Axor trucks.

He also worked in operations roles for the company’s passenger car division in Bremen, Germany, and Tuscaloosa, Alabama, as well as in the trucks division in Sao Bernardo, Brazil, and Mannheim, Germany.
