EPA Says Refiners on Target to Meet Sulfur '06 Standard

il refiners are on target to supply highway diesel fuel containing significantly less sulfur than current fuel within the next four to six years, according to a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency report released Oct. 29.

The report projected that 96% of the nearly 3 million barrels of highway diesel produced per day will meet EPA’s impending 15-parts-per-million sulfur standard.

“What this says to me is people are planning to make the investment to get the sulfur level down,” said Greg Scott, an attorney with Washington law firm Collier Shannon Scott. The firm represents two fuel distribution groups, the National Association of Convenience Stores and the Society of Independent Gasoline Marketers of America.
