EPA Working With Industry on 'Clean Corridors' for ULSD

he Environmental Protection Agency said it was working with industry representatives to determine the locations of proposed “clean corridors” where fleets could buy ultra-low-sulfur fuel in 2005 to test 2007 diesel engines in actual operating conditions.

Industry representatives’ reactions were cautious.

“We would probably use the clean corridors, but we would want to test [the 2007 engines] as ‘real-world’ as possible. If that fuel is only available in a few clean corridors, that isn’t real world,” said Mike Morgan, vice president of fleet services and labor relations at less-than-truckload carrier Overnite Transportation. “As long as [the fuel] was available in bulk, we would try to do it ourselves.”
