Factory Orders Rise in June

Factory orders increased 1.5% in June, the Commerce Department reported Friday.

The increase followed a revised 3% increase in May that was originally reported as a 2.1% rise.

The increase was smaller than economists’ forecasts of a 2.3% rise, Bloomberg News reported.

Durable goods orders rose 3.9%, Bloomberg said.

Orders for capital goods excluding aircraft and military equipment, a measure of future business investment, rose 0.9% following a 1.5% rise the previous month.

Commercial aircraft orders, which tend to be volatile, increased 32.1%.

The trucking industry relies on factory orders and shipments for much of its business.
