Factory Orders Rise in October

Factory orders rose 0.8% in October, the Commerce Department reported Wednesday.

The upturn followed a revised 4.5% increase in September that was slightly lower than originally reported.

The October gain was higher than economists’ forecast of little change, Bloomberg reported.

Capital goods orders excluding aircraft and military orders, a measure of future business investment, climbed 2.9% following a 0.5% dip in September.

The trucking industry relies on factory orders and shipments for much of its business.
