ASHINGTON — The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is slated to receive $521 million, a 6% increase over the current year, in the Bush Administration’s fiscal 2007 budget request for the Transportation Department.

The increase would be “pretty consistent” with the amount authorized under last year’s highway spending package, outgoing FMCSA Administrator Annette Sandberg told Transport Topics.

The Department of Transportation’s overall budget request for next year was $65.6 billion. It included funding for several other agencies that oversee parts of freight transportation.
