FMCSA Shifts to New Work Following HOS Rule

ith the staff work needed to revise its driver hours-of-service rules now mostly behind it, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is preparing to issue several new rules stemming from the recently enacted highway-spending reauthorization, agency officials said.

“The reauthorization . . . is a bit of a window into what we plan on doing over the next three or four years,” FMCSA Administrator Annette Sandberg said in an Aug. 19 press conference.

The Safe Accountable Flexible Efficient Transportation Equity Act “provided us with many regulations to draft, both those that are mandatory and those that will be necessary to implement the provisions of [the law],” FMCSA spokeswoman Patricia Lee said.
