Former DOT Chief James Burnley Named Chairman of Eno’s Board

Former U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary James Burnley has been named chairman of the Eno Center for Transportation board of directors, the group announced June 13.

Burnley, co-chairman of Eno’s aviation working group, succeeds Lillian Borrone.

“Secretary Burnley brings an extraordinary breadth of knowledge and commitment to Eno, its mission and future opportunities. The board, staff and I look forward to working closely with him in his new role,” said Robert Puentes, Eno’s president and CEO.

The transportation secretary from 1987 to 1989, Burnley is Venable’s transportation and infrastructure legislative group leader. Venable is based in Washington, D.C.



Burnley led DOT during the final years of the Reagan administration. Prior to that he served as DOT deputy secretary and general counsel. Before DOT, Burnley was an associate deputy attorney general at the Justice Department. He earned degrees from Yale University and Harvard Law School.

The former secretary was senior adviser to Sen. Elizabeth Dole’s presidential campaign as well as the presidential campaigns of Sens. Bob Dole and John McCain.
