AN ANTONIO — Shippers, carriers and brokers can all benefit from technology, provided it is tailored to their specific needs and not simply speeding up existing processes, said speakers and participants at a shippers’ technology committee meeting.

The National Industrial Transportation League’s Information Technology Advancement Committee looked at everything from creating effective Web sites and customizing technology for non-tech-savvy customers, to improving data integration of various systems and platforms. The committee met here Nov. 11-12 in advance of NITL’s TransComp annual meeting.

Committee chairwoman Candace Kline, vice president of global logistics management for investment banker J.P. Morgan, said the meeting was “trying to deliver the message that technology is part of an overall strategy” and that companies “need to think about what they want to do before they deploy it.”
