Fuel, Traffic Push Interest in Map Units

ALLAS — Higher fuel costs and increasing traffic are driving interest in onboard navigation systems that help drivers find the most efficient and safest routes possible, according to vendor representatives.

A half-dozen companies showed new and improved mapping and navigation systems last month at the American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition.

Maptuit Corp. introduced a multi-mode navigation system called NaviGo that works with many popular in-cab communications devices and provides interactive maps and audible, truck-specific, real time, turn-by-turn directions.
