Graves Poised to Assume ATA's Presidency

Bill Graves prepared this week to take the helm of American Trucking Associations, as the trucking industry faced an array of business and regulatory challenges ranging from rising fuel and insurance costs to security concerns and the economic effects of possible war with Iraq.

The change at the top of trucking’s leading industry association also comes as leadership of several other key transportation organizations is in transition.

Graves, a two-term governor whose family once ran one of the state’s largest trucking companies, is set to succeed William J. Canary as head of the 70-year-old federation on Jan. 15.
