Honda said it is voluntarily recalling about 295,000 Honda and Acura vehicles in the United States to update the fuel injection electronic unit, a device that determines how much fuel enters the engine.
The recalls affect the 2023-2025 Honda Pilot, 2022-2025 Acura MDX Type S and 2021-2025 Acura TLX Type S, the automaker said.
The fuel injection electronic unit was improperly programmed, Honda said. Sudden changes in the throttle — a valve that controls the amount of air that enters the engine, according to carfax.com — could light up the check engine light and cause the engine to lose power, stop and/or stall. This could increase the risk of a crash or injury.
As of Jan. 29, “American Honda has not received any confirmed reports of crashes or injuries related to this issue,” the company said.
Honda said it “self-diagnosed” the issue with the fuel injection electronic unit by monitoring data from its vehicles. The company determined there was a need to perform a software update on the fuel injection electronic control unit.

Registered owners of all affected Honda and Acura models will be contacted by mail in March, Honda said.
They will be asked to take their vehicle to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer to update their vehicle’s fuel injection electronic control unit for free.
Honda said owners of these vehicles can also see if their car needs a repair by visiting www.recalls.honda.com or www.recalls.acura.com, or by calling (888) 234-2138.
