Humboldt Launches Retractable Thermal Barrier for Refrigerated Carriers

Humboldt Specialty Manufacturing Co. has launched a new product designed to help refrigerated carriers protect their cargo while trailers’ doors are open and prevent claims.

The product, named Kool Shield, is a retractable thermal barrier designed to keep refrigerated air in and humidity out while trucks are docked and waiting to be loaded or unloaded.

Humboldt said the product operates like a window shade. Kool Shield is normally kept in place by lock brackets on either side of the trailer but can be quickly retracted through a spring mechanism.

Kool Shield can maintain temperatures inside the trailer for three hours, which can save reefer fuel and wear and tear on the reefer unit, the Omaha, Nebraska-based company said.

Humboldt showed the new product at the Technology Maintenance Council’s 2015 annual meeting in Nashville, Tennessee.
